Maria Borges (born 28 October 1992, Luanda) is an Angolan fashion model. She was named Forbes Africa Magazine’s top model of 2013. She is a Riccardo Tisci’s (creative director of Givenchy) protégée and even calls him her "godfather". Maria Borges is currently signed with IMG agency, and is based in New York.

Maria Borges was born in Angola and raised by her siblings during the Angolan Civil War.

She was discovered in 2010 by an agent, after the Elite Model Look Angola contest.

In 2012, Maria signed with Supreme Agency. One month later, in her first Fashion week, she walked 17 runway shows. For her second season, she was a Givenchy exclusive.

In 2013 and 2014, she walked the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. After a very successful September 2015, Maria Borges walked the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, with her short natural Afro.

So how does she stay grounded with all of her success? “Step by step” (which she has tattooed on her forearm). She got the tattoo after receiving advice when leaving Angola. She was told ‘Be patient; take it step by step.’

Maria Borges is a rising star and a symbol for the African continent.
